Do you like ironing? I don’t mind, especially when it refers to snapping photos of iron beauties around Barcelona! ;) Here are some for you to enjoy…
Heavenly hinges
26 Oct
Among the many embellishments on buildings in Barcelona in the time of the Modernisme movement, even doors received their generous dose, and heavenly hinges can be found on various beautiful doors around town.
Ornate, swirly, dotted with studs and often depicting flowers or even dragons, these hinges were handmade by the smiths of the era.

Goin’ sailing
31 Jul
Goin’ sailing, folks! Well, maybe I’ll be doing some sailing, maybe not. (I didn’t have any ‘gone fishing’-related images to share with you, hence my spin on that phrase.) What I’ll definitely be doing, is taking a break from the blog for a bit. To rest, recharge my batteries and prepare for an exciting new season which will bring changes! Yes, just you wait and see…
But don’t fret, I’m not abandoning the blog entirely! I’ll check in every now and then, to see if you’ve left me any comments or messages, and if I spot something on my lazy days that I think you must also see, I’ll be sure to share it with you.

Twinkle twinkle
30 Jul
Happy Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend! Have you been watching the Olympics? Discovered any new (sports) stars you like? I thought it would be appropriate to start the week looking at the stars, albeit stars of a different nature, so here goes: twinkle twinkle!
Pretty, isn’t it, this star which was hewn into stone at the back side of Barcelona’s cathedral? Or what about this golden one (below), crowned and all? Brings to mind thoughts of Russian soldiers, or images from the Chinese Cultural Revolution…

Gimme ventilation!
20 Jul
Gimme ventilation! It has been very hot in Barcelona these past few days, and even in my home, where it’s usually cool, temperatures have risen considerably. It’s a time of the year when being able to ventilate one’s home is a blessing, and luckily for those of us in Ciutat Vella, most buildings were constructed to enable this. Even lobbies and stair wells have specific ventilation windows. I have gathered a selection for you, so you can see what I am referring to…
Ventilation windows are mostly found above the entrance of any given building. Often they are part of the arch that is the doorway, and protected from unwanted entry by often beautiful cast or wrought iron grilles.

No water needed
29 Jun
These days we’ve been hit by a heatwave in Barcelona (and many parts of Europe, in fact) and it is quite a task to keep my plants and flowers from wilting. But by watering them often they seem to be holding up OK. No water needed for these flowers! You can see why…
