Funky tiles in Barcelona

It is a public holiday here, so just a quick and short post today. Some time ago I spotted some funky tiles on a street in the Sant Antoni area.

Their indented decorative elements caught my eye for their simple and playful nature.

I could see myself having tiles like this in my home. Perhaps in a matte version, in shades of black, greige or white…

Don’t miss tomorrow’s post, for it’s a new installment in the BCN at home series, and I will take you to a cool pad in the Eixample.

Metro walls

5 Apr

.

Many of Barcelona’s metro stations are a little out-dated and cramped, but there is a good side to that: they have some very funky metro walls! Here is a selection of those which I hope you will enjoy on your ride into the weekend… have a good one, everyone!

Trio – Carrer Diputaciò

That Barcelona is an open air ode to all things Modernista is a well known fact. But there is more gorgeousness to be found, and so today I’m sharing with you bunch of stuff from the seventies, found on buildings of all kinds, in various areas of Barcelona, in a kind of flashback to funk.

Time for a bath – Carrer Banys Nous

Friday once again! Another week has flown by and we’re well into Summer. In Barcelona this is a very fun time, so when I came across this image (above) yesterday, I decided to put together a post with tile tales. Today I’m a little fuzzy-headed after all the fun I had last night, so I’m not sure I’ll manage terribly well, though. Oh well, let’s see how I do…

Island no 2, quarter no 4 – Carrer del Call

On island number 2 things were getting a little smelly, what with so many people living in close proximity to one another. It was time for a bath. Luckily, around the corner rescue was at hand, for that was where the public baths were located. So in order to make getting clean’ fun, we decided to all go together. Splish! Splash! What a party we had!

Just a few

Happy Monday, I hope you had a lovely weekend! In Barcelona (and on many places along the Mediterranean coast) we celebrated Sant Joan this weekend, as a way to honour the Summer solstice. Since a lot of bonfires and fireworks went up in smoke, I thought it would be suitable to share Palau Güell’s chimneys with you today. Enjoy!

Brick beauty :: 2

Each and every chimney at Palau Güell is different from the next, and each is a work of art, whether they be decorated with glazed tiles (broken to suit the ‘trencadis’ style), glass shards, stones or the humble brick, they are all gorgeous in their own way. Here, see for yourself…

Decorative frieze – Carrer Torres i Amat

Happy Wednesday! Today’s post is totally tiled – from top to bottom and spaces in between – enjoy!

Starting at the base of the domed roof of a lovely church on Plaça de Castella, where tiles have been used in a diamond pattern, and some 70s delights on the floor of the shop where I buy my electric supplies, on Carrer del Carme. Cute, aren’t they?

Gothic letters

It has been a while since I last showed you some street signs, so let’s kick off the weekend with a stroll around town to peek at corners to see what they have to say, and how they are saying it…

Via Laietana

Happy Monday! By now you know that there are many beautiful buildings in Barcelona, and that it is worthwhile to look up at them as often as is comfortable. One of the reasons for that, is to be able to see the turrets and towers that preside over some of the buildings. Here are a handful of them for you to enjoy…

My birthday is at the end of this week, and inevitably, numbers (as related to my age) are on my mind. As good an excuse as any, therefore, to share some numbers with you today, enjoy!

There is a house, just outside the old city walls, on Carrer Sots-Tinent Navarro, which always stops me in my tracks. Reason enough, I think to show it to you.
