Occupational signs

Walking around in Amsterdam (as you do, and I certainly did) last weekend, I noticed a handful of signs that I thought worth sharing. Typical from the Golden Age are the signs depicting various occupations, and these are grouped together on the corner of the Amsterdam Museum. The other one, much more combative, if you will, I spotted just a few corners further up the road. Although the fact that it had been left discarded, leaning against the wall, might mean that the war against nature is truly over! ;)

Carrer Peu de la Creu

Happy Tuesday! In recent months a new form of  street art has appeared on Barcelona’s streets. They are humorous vignettes, carefully applied to road signs on various corners around town. It’s a sign!

Time for a bath – Carrer Banys Nous

Friday once again! Another week has flown by and we’re well into Summer. In Barcelona this is a very fun time, so when I came across this image (above) yesterday, I decided to put together a post with tile tales. Today I’m a little fuzzy-headed after all the fun I had last night, so I’m not sure I’ll manage terribly well, though. Oh well, let’s see how I do…

Island no 2, quarter no 4 – Carrer del Call

On island number 2 things were getting a little smelly, what with so many people living in close proximity to one another. It was time for a bath. Luckily, around the corner rescue was at hand, for that was where the public baths were located. So in order to make getting clean’ fun, we decided to all go together. Splish! Splash! What a party we had!

It’s probably no different in any other city – take one street and take photos of its signs and you probably get an interesting gathering, just like the ones I’m showing you today from Carrer del Carme: one street, many signs. Enjoy!

Sgraffito gorgeousness – Carrer Bonsuccès

Apart from Amsterdam, Barcelona is the only other city I know where age is carried with pride – on buildings that is! Whether painted in bas-relief, sgraffito’ed, carved, tiled, or carved, there are signs of age just about everywhere in this gorgeous town. Here, see for yourself…
