Into the wild – new pieces by Marc Sparfel
22 FebHurray it’s Friday! How have you enjoyed this week, dedicated to tough cookies and modern day heroines? To wrap it up, I am taking you into the wild, for I have new pieces by Marc Sparfel to show you that are wildly wonderful. You may remember Marc Sparfel – from this earlier blogpost – the French sculptor who uses discarded pieces of wood (and bits of furniture) to create his works of art.
Marc Sparfel has created a new collection of animal-like sculptures (which I love) by using parts of chairs and other pieces of furniture. At times these animals are quite recognizable, at others they are wholly imagined, and could almost be prehistoric…
… see what I mean (above)? I really like these sculptures that Marc Sparfel has created, and hope you do too. Which is your favorite? Mine are the bulls…
All these wonderful creatures are available from Vail International Gallery. For more information and updates, please check out Marc Sparfel’s website. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
PS: Next week I’ll be going all delicate and pretty on you… don’t miss it!

Drap Art ’12
8 Oct
At the moment the CCCB is hosting its 3rd Drap Art festival, dedicated to promoting art that is created with recycled bits and pieces. If you’re in Barcelona between now and the 14th of this month, I suggest you check it out, for there are some great pieces, and others which are simply fun, or cute. Here is my selection from the Drap Art ’12 expo – enjoy!
Quim Rifà (above) is the winner of the Residu’Art 2012 Emerging Artist Award, and he won this with his piece titled R1.
Carles Piera Claramunt makes interesting collages with several found objects and old paper, and Joaquim Falcò & Meritxell Tembleque (whom you, dear blog friend, might know as Quim Txell Comglass) were present with their spectacular “Partícules” which was created with melted down cava bottle bottoms, pieces of window glass, old lenses and iron.

Siesta time…
1 Oct
It might be a little odd to do so on a Monday morning, but I am going to suggest you incorporate some siesta time into your schedule. Here’s why: on Carrer Ferlandina 18, in what used to be a haberdashery shop, and where the original wooden furnishings have been (practically) left intact, you will find Siesta, a shop and gallery of objects and works of art made by artists.
These objects and works of art have been selected with the greatest care and exquisite taste by Siesta proprietress Mercedes, and which have been displayed around every nook and cranny of the space for best effect. I am delighted to share a selection of these with you in the following slideshow…

Body parts
26 Jul
Hello! Today I have some delightful ceramics to share with you, made by the very lovely Sophie Aguilera. Various body parts, illustrated by Sophie and reminiscent of medical illustrations from Victorian times, have been decalled onto either vintage crockery found at flea markets, or plates, cups and dishes made industrially. Each plate, mug or platter comes with a little romantic message and the result, as you can see, is beautiful!

Ladies of leisure
29 Mar
I’ve just spent a couple of lazy days down the coast, away from my laptop (you hadn’t noticed, had you?) and doing pretty much nothing at all, which is a great way (for me, at least) to recharge my batteries. But I think there are more people who roll that way, and so today I’m dedicating a post to those of of us ladies who love doing ab.so.lute.ly nothing. I leave you with images of ladies of leisure who do nothing but sit or stand around all day – enjoy!
