Hillside views

Steep street with stools

On a Carrer Margarit at the base of Montjuïc, there are some interesting hillside views. This part of the street is so steep, that dotted on its sidewalk are a bunch of metal stools, for people to take a seat and catch their breath, as they make their way up to the higher levels of this small mountain.

Pretty in pink

One such stool stands in front of a house, all pretty in pink and covered in pale green sgraffito details plus ditto blinds, that is only two floors high.

Swirly foliage and pretty flowers grace the walls of this lovely home and the door is daintily carved with ethereal shapes that merely hint at some kind of flowers. Its knocker, much more voluptuous, invites to tap tap and ask to be invited in to see what more beauty lies in store within the walls of this gracious house.

Knock knock

If an invitation isn’t forthcoming, then we can only resign ourselves to enjoy whatever other hillside views this spot has to offer…

Not as pink perhaps, but certainly not too bad either, for in the distance lies a prize: the glorious Sagrada Familia with its turrets and cranes pointing up to the sky.

In the distance…

Dear readers, I have a busy week ahead, with birthday celebrations and visits from family and friends. So I am going to have a mini holiday and enjoy myself and give my loved ones the attention they deserve. But not to worry! I’ll be back on Monday next week, and hope to delight you then with more Barcelona loveliness. Have a great week, everyone!

A third mini post with Mercè moments for you show images I shot at La Sagrada Familia, where Moment Factory, a company from Montreal, dazzled onlookers with a beautiful multimedia show as an ode to life.

Reset – Carrer dels Cecs de Sant Cugat

Today is La Diada in Catalunya, a public holiday, but more than anything, a day in which nationalist sentiment runs high and independence is the word du jour. Now more than ever. But I have other words for you. Words I have found on the street, on doors, on windows… Words that express all manner of sentiment. Words that may touch your soul. Or not. They touched mine. For their content, or simply for their aesthetic value. Here they are – enjoy!

Parc Güell

Happy Monday! It was a weekend which ended in rain, thunder and cooling temperatures, as well as football madness here. How was your weekend? Today we’re going to get puzzled. Yes, puzzled! But not in a bad way. Quite the contrary, for I’m sharing examples of Barcelona’s mosaics with you. Ready?

Parc Güell

Hugely popular in Barcelona’s Modernisme period, mosaics were widely used to decorate many of the buildings that were constructed at this time. Famous examples among these are of course Antoni Gaudí’s Parc Güell and Sagrada Familia.

Stained glass in (mostly) green

Ever since it was consecrated in late 2010, I’d been meaning to visit the  Sagrada Familia again to see the inside, and I finally did recently. It completely blew me away with its beauty and uniqueness, and I highly recommend a visit if you find yourself in Barcelona. Today I am sharing with you a selection of sacred close-ups to inspire you, and kick off the weekend…
