Manodesanta a crochet art exhibit at Miscelanea, Barcelona

Manodesanta @ Miscelanea

Last Sunday, while out on a stroll, I popped in to Miscelanea and found a delightful exhibit. Messages in crochet by Marial Soy, showcasing technique, irony and things to say.

I loved seeing such and old school craft form in a completely new guise, and just had to share it with you.

Old school, new art

The messages on each piece made me chuckle, and some pieces I thought were really cool. But more than anything, I was delighted to see the humble crochet taking centre stage in one of Barcelona’s hip and happening art galleries.

Fly Return

If you’re in town, then head over to Miscelanea on the double, for it is on until this Sunday. If you’re not, too bad! Maybe there is something along these lines happening where you are? If so, please let me know – I’ll happily share it with all of you, my dear blog friends.

Miscelanea is on Carrer de la Guardia 10, 08001 Barcelona. I’m going to keep an eye out for more work by Marial Soy, for I really like the stuff she creates. Check out her website to see what I mean…

Mr Smith’s moustache

This impressive moustache belongs to Mr Smith. Or rather, to El Bigote del Sr Smith, a multi-use space which opened not long ago on Carrer Joaquin Costa 38.

Happy Monday! Did you have a good weekend? I’m kick starting the week with a post about a new gallery that opened recently. It is the Openhouse Gallery and is found in the home of  Andrew Trotter (of Openhouse) and his flatmate Mari Luz Vidal, the photographer with whose project “Mariona y Yo” the gallery has launched its first exhibition. The gallery is the first in a series of projects that the Openhouse Project is launching this Summer and later in the year. Let’s check it out, shall we?

What’s this?

What is behind this façade? What could be impossible? Or what could Impossible be? I’m about to show you, for behind these lovely old walls lies the Barcelona shop of  Impossible Project, a truly wonderful initiative, which has ensured that anyone who owns (or wants to own) a Polaroid camera, can continue to use one…

Carrer Sagristans 9

A couple of weeks ago a friend told me there was a new shop in town and suggested I check it out. And so I discovered Formista, a shop / gallery in which the co-proprietors Mónica and Claudia display and sell “things made by people” and periodically host exhibits by contemporary artists.
