Beautiful child

Yep. Five hundred. Blogposts. Almost unbelievable, but very true! This calls for a little celebration, and so I thought we’d have a little street art fest today. To celebrate this 500th post and the fact that Barcelona’s street art is so very much alive with excellent artists, both local and visiting.

El Pez and his friends

These shots are from the park at Les Tres Xemeneies, at the bottom end of Avinguda del Paral.lel, where skaters and bikers hang out, do their tricks and where a few walls are actually permitted to be covered in tags, smiley fish and other works of spray art.

A pile of chestnuts

The walls were recently re-done, and so I am delighted to share these new works with you.

Black Panthers

There are 3 blocks of concrete which are covered on all sides, and artists like KRAM, El Pez and others (if you know who they are please let me know) have added their colourful touches to them, each in their own distinctive styles…

Freddy?

Dear (blog) friends, I’m going to take a break from blogging for a bit. Not because I’m fed up with it, but to enjoy a little holiday and to take the time to regroup and focus on a new project, which I would also like to see reflected in the blog. But don’t worry, I’ll be back! With more beautiful and exciting stuff from around Barcelona. Have a wonderful Summer, and see you again soon!

Out there…

2 Apr

.

Hello! Did you survive the Easter weekend in one piece? I certainly hope so! Just a few weeks ago, I was out there… out there in the suburbs, off the beaten track, where Modernisme is nowhere to be found, and you can count the tourists on the fingers of one hand (should you spot any, that is). I found it refreshing: just a bunch of stark, utilitarian buildings, no frills whatsoever. At the most, some laundry hanging in the sun to dry as a touch of colour…

.

That, and the odd piece of street art, among which a ‘classical’ piece by El Pez and a gorgeous smoking guy (at the top) as well as the radiant heart above. I like it out there… I’ll be going back to explore some more, and of course I will share my findings with you.

XXL – Carrer Roc Boronat

While in the 22@ district recently, I couldn’t help but be delighted by all the street art that I found (and almost missed, remember?). So to kick-start this week (happy Monday, by the way) I thought I’d share what I found… enjoy!

Dusty with age – Carrer Àlaba

The areas of Barcelona that I frequent, don’t offer graffiti in XXL size, so catching this one (top photo) which protests against the development of 22@ on the backside of a building was a delight! It is more habitual to find blinds, such as this one on Carrer Àlaba, covered in spray paint. Nice to see an old(er) Pez still surviving.

Vacant lots and construction sites abound in Poble Nou, and especially in the 22@ district, and they are treasure troves of street art. See for yourself…

Hair and beauty – Carrer d’en Bot

More and more shops and other businesses are having their blinds painted as a way to advertise, but especially to avoid tags and graffiti. Many blinds depict images of ladies, so I thought I’d share a selection with you today. Here goes: blind ladies
