Saturday pop-up

11 Jun

Last Saturday Carolina Blue (remember this lovely shop?) hosted a delightful pop-up flower market,  named “Field of Dreams”, which was organised by the lovely Carolina Carrasco + Marianne Krauss of The Treasures.

Flower crowns

During the morning hours gorgeous flower crowns were made, and pretty flowers and plants in lovely pots or (hanging) bundles were displayed and sold.

And in the afternoon and evening, great tunes were played by Rhys and his band, while visitors enjoyed a glass (or two) of bubbly fruit cocktail, and a couple of  little boys twirled away on their impromptu dance floor to the delight of their mothers and other onlookers. It was a truly charming event, the likes of which I hope will repeat itself across Barcelona often!

Amsterdam street art Reguliers Dwarsstraat

Rainbow brother

To wrap up this week of holiday snapshots I have some very beautiful examples of street art for you, found in Amsterdam, on Reguliers Dwarsstraat, on just one wall. They are a series of wonderful portraits, done with stencils, both in black and white and in color… (note the attention that has been paid to the background!)

The new courtyard

While in Amsterdam last week, I made it a point to revisit the recently reopened Rijksmuseum and have a look at the collections as well as the way the building has been refurbished. I was not disappointed. Here are some details I wanted to share with you: museum snaps. Enjoy!

Mirrors

Happy Monday, everyone! I have been away on a short trip, and in the next days I will share some impressions with you. Starting today, with some mosaic spheres which I found on a very famous square… can you guess where I was these days?

Eye see you!

As far as eyes go, brown has always been my favourite color, so it’s not surprising that this one caught my eye!

With this housey sphere, I think you can pretty much guess where I have been. And if not, the one below will leave no doubt whatsoever! ;)

Have a wonderful week, everyone!

Manodesanta a crochet art exhibit at Miscelanea, Barcelona

Manodesanta @ Miscelanea

Last Sunday, while out on a stroll, I popped in to Miscelanea and found a delightful exhibit. Messages in crochet by Marial Soy, showcasing technique, irony and things to say.

I loved seeing such and old school craft form in a completely new guise, and just had to share it with you.

Old school, new art

The messages on each piece made me chuckle, and some pieces I thought were really cool. But more than anything, I was delighted to see the humble crochet taking centre stage in one of Barcelona’s hip and happening art galleries.

Fly Return

If you’re in town, then head over to Miscelanea on the double, for it is on until this Sunday. If you’re not, too bad! Maybe there is something along these lines happening where you are? If so, please let me know – I’ll happily share it with all of you, my dear blog friends.

Miscelanea is on Carrer de la Guardia 10, 08001 Barcelona. I’m going to keep an eye out for more work by Marial Soy, for I really like the stuff she creates. Check out her website to see what I mean…

In the making- Carrer Doctor Dou

Like a bird in flight, I snapped him in action: Francisco de Pájaro working on one of his “art is trash” pieces, just around the corner from my home. As always, with discarded bits of rubbish, making use of the urban infrastructure and his characteristic, subversive style.

Happy Monday, everyone! I have a busy day ahead, so I’m going to keep this short but sweet… just wanted to share a handful of beautiful blinds with you, that were made with the purpose of selling during closing hours.

A great and very simple way to advertise one’s wares with the blinds down, don’t you think? Plus, it adds some interest to the streets when shops are closed.
