In and out – Carrer Badajoz

If you have been following this blog for some time, you will know that I like reflections. And I like them even more, when they create optical illusions, such as the ones I have in store for you today!

Seeing double – Carrer Ciutat de Granada

Pretty amazing how shifting your focus on the same buildings I showed you in last Friday’s post, you can see such very different things. Which do you prefer, the corners, or the illusions?

Dotty at Media-TIC – Carrer Sancho d’Àvila

Shadows and light and the effects they have on their surroundings fascinate me, and I generally look around me for their projections. As today is Halloween, I thought it appropriate to share a few new ones with you that I found recently.

Shedding light on the neighbors – Carrer Sancho d’Àvila

I discovered them all at the 22@ district, among the various office buildings (and a certain museum) and are pretty interesting. If only for their size. Notice how on the two buildings below there are both shadows and lights projected? It’s as if the two are communicating with each other using a non-verbal method…

Lush fountain

To find a space of calm in the middle of a busy city, especially when times are tough politically and economically, is wonderful. I know of an urban oasis. It’s called La Tamarita, and it’s found at the base of Tibidabo mountain. Fancy going there with me? Let’s! It’s Friday, after all…

La Tamarita was laid out on several levels – the mountain starts right here, after all – and this adds to its sense of being somewhere quite different from our normal urban environs.

Putting wellies to good use – Carrer Cera

Another week behind us, and we are speeding into Summer with the Olympic Games kicking off tonight and hot weather for all of us in the Northern Hemisphere. Time to tend our plants, otherwise they will be parched. For those of us who live in cities that means the plants we have in our mini gardens. Lots of those here, in Barcelona! Here are just a few examples – enjoy!

Palm fronds – Port Vell

I am always fascinated by the shapes that shadows project onto the ground (or wall, as the case may be) for with the passing of clouds or the rotation of the earth, they can be there and gone before you know it, yet while they are there they can be so very beautiful. I have been spotting some nice ones to share with you, so here goes…

Blossom on Montjuïc

Spring arrived this week, and after a couple of days of blustery wind and lots of (much needed) rain, the weekend is here, so what better, than to go out and enjoy the blossoms and blooms, as well as budding leaves in nature? In Barcelona, nature is a little scarce, but we are lucky to have many parks to enjoy a bit of greenery. A great place to get closer to nature, is Montjuïc, so here we go – let’s enjoy Spring!

A dear friend of mine recently put in a request for the blog. She wanted to see some green, mostly because she was curious to see if the plants people keep in Barcelona are similar to those of her native country, Italy…

Like lace (Carrer Doctor Dou)

I am away for a long weekend, (this blog post was actually prepared before I left) so playing with the idea of being here yet not really being here, I thought it might be fun to do a post on shadows.
