On Carrer Peu de la Creu 24 we can find Novedades, a shop I discovered one morning, while having a coffee at Satan’s Coffee Corner, and which is well worth a visit. Why? you may ask… Well, because it sells an interesting range of items which were all made in Barcelona. In fact, most of them were made right there!
The lovely bottled lamps were made there, as were the colourful clothes.
The lamps are mostly made of recycled or re-purposed items, while the clothes and hand bags are new creations.
Novedades also sells really nice decals for your walls and cool totes to carry your stuff around in.
It is a lovely shop, where you can find things for your home or presents for your loved ones. With Christmas practically around the corner, it is a great place to go get your presents, and if you are just passing through Barcelona, then what better to buy your souvenirs here!
When browsing what’s on offer, you might spot these rings and napkin rings, made from re-purposed silver (plated?) cutlery, or the necklace with a glass pendant that once was part of a chandelier. Lovely, aren’t they?
Or you might rest your eyes on one of the many quirky lamps, made from porcelain plates, wooden tree trunks or cymbals. And you might wonder who is behind those creations?
As well as decals, there are more pretty graphic items to be found at Novedades, such as these hairy cups, made by Lamagaprints. The Dolly * Me cuddly toys (below) are super cute, and handmade from 100% recycled fabrics.
If you find a bunch of eyes staring at you, don’t be alarmed! They are the dolly pins made by Lolitas BCN from a stuffed bit of pantyhose, embroidered stitch by stitch with yarns and appliqued with feathers, flowers and eyes.
Who are the creative people behind all these wonderful items? You’re likely to meet them if you visit the shop, for they work right there, making their wonderful things, in the workshop areas behind the shop…
… and tomorrow I’ll be telling you more about them in a new episode of BCN Handmade. Don’t miss it!
