Among the many embellishments on buildings in Barcelona in the time of the Modernisme movement, even doors received their generous dose, and heavenly hinges can be found on various beautiful doors around town.
Ornate, swirly, dotted with studs and often depicting flowers or even dragons, these hinges were handmade by the smiths of the era.
Delights in wrought iron have resulted and last to this day, and hopefully will last well into the future, as testimony of a time when all things handmade were widely appreciated.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if this time we are living in now, when people are getting more than a little fed up (or bored) with all things mass produced, saw a resurgence of the handmade on a large scale? And among these handmade things, the work of smiths became highly sought after, and generated such beautiful works in wrought iron as I have shown you in this post? Aaaah… one can dream!
Have a great weekend, everyone! I’ll be checking out some architectural beauties this weekend, thanks to the 48H Open House BCN which takes place tomorrow and on Sunday. How are you going to spend your weekend?
