Minimalist with a friendly service, good tunes in the background, wi-fi service and food that is to die for (everything is so very yummie!), on Carrer Pintor Fortuny 31 Australian chef Zim has opened my new favourite hangout. New on the block: Caravelle.
Fresh flowers grace every table – a delightful touch that you don’t often see these days, yet which makes such a nice difference.
Sturdy, practical furniture (the chairs remind me of my school days) and white walls that are almost completely bare (save for a few mirrors and the specials board) keep the ambience simple and allow for the delicious dishes to take centre stage at Caravelle.
Caravelle opens from 10 am until midnight every day except Mondays (on Sundays they are currently open until 4.30 pm) and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and drinks. On weekends a selection of dishes is added so you can enjoy a scrumptious brunch. An added bonus: Children and dogs are welcome.
Just as great care is taken with all the food (which includes home-made pastries and desserts), the drinks selection has been carefully put together to satisfy discerning palates: several local beers, a small, but well chosen selection of wines, organic juices and teas…
… and very good coffee, which is freshly ground (both the decaf and normal beans) and prepared with great care. And all is served by a friendly staff who speak both Spanish and English.
For those of us who like to dine a little earlier than is the norm in Spain, Caravelle is a great option, for their dinners start at 8 pm (and finish at 11.30 pm).
For me, the elements that make up Caravelle add up to a winning total, but I suggest you check it out for yourself if you’re in the area, and let me know what you think… Bon profit!
Caravelle is open: Tues – Sat: 10 am – midnight + Sundays: 10 am – 4.30 pm. Check out their facebook page here for news and updates.
Again a good reason to come over to Barcelona! I think I am going to plan a trip next year … :)
Haha! It certainly IS a good reason to plan a visit!! Let me know when you’re coming, I can offer more tips and recommendations if you like…
