Lush fountain
To find a space of calm in the middle of a busy city, especially when times are tough politically and economically, is wonderful. I know of an urban oasis. It’s called La Tamarita, and it’s found at the base of Tibidabo mountain. Fancy going there with me? Let’s! It’s Friday, after all…

La Tamarita was laid out on several levels – the mountain starts right here, after all – and this adds to its sense of being somewhere quite different from our normal urban environs.

Lush with many types of trees and bushes, several paths, some straight, others winding, lead through the dense foliage from one part to the next.

The gardens comprise several formal gardens in Neo Classical style, and there are many benches to sit and rest, or while away the afternoon dreaming amidst the quiet atmosphere that pervades this lovely place.

Busy Sant Gervasi avenue runs right past the park’s seaward side, but you can barely hear the passing cars while enveloped in the greens that surround you all around.

La Tamarita is easy to get to if you’re in downtown Barcelona, for it is but a ride away on the FGC train which runs from Plaça Cataluña. Get off at the Avinguda Tibidabo stop and step into this delightful urban oasis… you’ll feel your blood pressure drop instantly.
