Hello! Today I have some delightful ceramics to share with you, made by the very lovely Sophie Aguilera. Various body parts, illustrated by Sophie and reminiscent of medical illustrations from Victorian times, have been decalled onto either vintage crockery found at flea markets, or plates, cups and dishes made industrially. Each plate, mug or platter comes with a little romantic message and the result, as you can see, is beautiful!
Can you imagine drinking your tea from this dainty cup and saucer? Well you can, for these lovely items are for sale on Sophie’s Etsy shop, as well as at El Bigote del Sr Smith – a new gallery/shop which recently opened around the corner from the MACBA (more about them soon).
Sophie’s decorated plates are a recent addition to what she has been doing for years, which is sculpting ceramic pieces and illustrating.
In her sculptures Sophie likes to center her work on female body parts, which she sculpts from various kinds of clay. Her pieces can be seen in exhibits, often at Untitled Bcn, a gallery that showcases work from both local artists from Barcelona and artists from London.
I don’t know about you, but I love Sophie’s work. I recommend you check out her Etsy shop and Tumblr for more images of her extensive collections, for whether illustrating, adding her own particular finishing touches to already beautiful crockery, or bringing clay to life in her sculpted pieces, Sophie’s pieces are exquisite! If you are in Barcelona, head to El Bigote del Sr Smith, for you can also find some porcelain jewelry there which Sophie made in collaboration with a friend of hers. You’ll love it!
