Happy Monday! Did you have a good weekend? I’m kick starting the week with a post about a new gallery that opened recently. It is the Openhouse Gallery and is found in the home of Andrew Trotter (of Openhouse) and his flatmate Mari Luz Vidal, the photographer with whose project “Mariona y Yo” the gallery has launched its first exhibition. The gallery is the first in a series of projects that the Openhouse Project is launching this Summer and later in the year. Let’s check it out, shall we?
The photos have been displayed tastefully around the home of these two very creative people, and follow a particular order…
… and while you walk from photo to photo, it is worth taking in the gorgeous details of the beautiful apartment that Andrew and Mari Luz live in, such as the stained glass windows, or the lovely mosaic floors.
Each photo has its own story attached, and the total of these stories recall the childhood memories of Mari Luz and the ‘adventures’ she had as a child with her best friend and neighbor Mariona.
After the first few photos which are found at one end of the apartment, you have to retrieve your steps and once again pass through the beautiful entrance of the gallery home and move on to the front end.
Among more of the apartment’s period features, more photos have been displayed in what is to be the main gallery room…
… and in which at present this very desirable furniture by Lobster’s Day can be seen. (The beautiful stool, chair and tables can be purchased at Openhouse.)
The finale of the exhibition can be found in Mari Luz’s bedroom…
… where photos of Mariona and herself are displayed. The series is a beautiful, moving and very personal autobiographical journey that Mari Luz undertook to find her childhood friend after being estranged from her for many years.
If you are in Barcelona, I would strongly recommend you ask for an appointment to arrange a personal tour. You can do this here. Otherwise, check out the images and stories on Mari Luz’s website here by clicking on ‘proyectos’ and from there to ‘Mariona y Yo’.
