I’m taking you shopping today at La Variété, a shop that is just around the corner from the Cute Suite, and which I have wanted to share with you ever since it opened last year. (Sometimes, good things take time, don’t they?) Ready? Here we go…
Filled to the brim with lovely items designed by the shop’s owner, a local from Barcelona, and produced in Thailand, the lovely collection available at La Variété, is a mix between rustic and exotic, a kind of Mediterranean meets Asian. It comprises beautiful woven baskets, pretty Thai fabrics (used for accessories, bags, table cloths, throws, cushions and sarongs), recycled paper items, vintage furniture, cuddly toys, clothes, flip flops… all very covetable and well made, and with prices that don’t empty your pocket in one fell swoop (unless you buy everything in the shop, of course).
Pretty Thai Batiks have been used to create cushion covers and plastified to make lovely table cloths, providing work for local craftspeople (in Thailand) and offering us something a little different to decorate our homes with.
Woven grass baskets and pouches in many different sizes, pretty decorative birds and handy zip purses are great gifts, the totes a great way to do your shopping in style, and the striped and solid colour espadrilles are very desirable too.
I recently gave one of these cute bunnies to my 1 year old niece – I just find them irresistible! The bags, totes, laptop and iPad cases, and pouches made from recyled paper are really very cool, especially when they are covered in beautiful Thai fonts.
The checked sarongs (which can also be used as shawls) are to die for and I am definitely going to get one for myself. I’m just not sure which one – they are all so beautiful that I can’t make up my mind! Although I think the one on the far right (below) in the gorgeous dark red check has my name on it…
La Variété has the largest and most comfy changing room I have seen in a long while, and certainly one of the more stylish!
A great way to decorate a mirror or a window is using one of La Variété‘s mini vases which you attach to any smooth surface with a suction cup. Cute, right? I also love the woven shopping bag with its leather handles, which is an Asian version of an old Mediterranean classic.
Really fun are these polka dot motorbike ladies which just need a few twists of their key and off they go! And as if that isn’t enough, La Variété also sells flip flops in yummie colours. Have you spotted anything you like? Then you know where to go if you’re in Barcelona. And if you can’t come for a visit, you’re in luck, for you can also buy at La Variété‘s online shop. Don’t forget to check out their Facebook page too, for the latest tidbits on their lovely collection.
