Ground floor
Happy Monday! I hope you had a lovely weekend, and are ready to start a new week. I’m kicking off the week with some surprise art at Number 26. Here goes…
You may be walking along the street, and not feel terribly inspired by what you see at ground level, but you decide to look up and lo and behold, your impression changes drastically! So it is at Number 26 of Carrer Joaquim Costa.
First floor
I’d walked past this building many, many times and never noticed what an artful façade it has when you take the time to look up. But look up I did, recently, and I was quite blown away by what is up there.
Faux carving
It’s a wonderful example of a Trompe l’Oeil mural. And I find it simply delightful! Just check it out. All the elements that you can find on most old buildings in Barcelona, which are normally carved, on this building have been painted to simulate carvings.
Centre detail
Painted marble friezes, and many faux marble carvings, all painted on what would otherwise be a very plain wall.
2nd floor
Trompe l'Oeil
As Trompe l’Oeil goes, it isn’t a great example, for it is quite coarse, but I think it’s so interesting to find it on such a plain building, in an environment that isn’t all that grand. And that is what I so love about Barcelona – how it can offer up such delightful surprises, when you least expect them!
