Happy Monday! Did you have a good weekend? Today I’d like to show you a handful of lanterns that grace the streets here in Barcelona, as an ode to those beautiful lights that shine our way on dark days and nights…
I’m not a fan of free publicity, and that was certainly not the intention, when I shot the (gorgeous) lamp above! It’s just that the composition was much nicer with the shop sign, and so I left it as is. The lamp is a remnant of the more glorious past of the building this flagship store is housed in – not too long ago it was the Barcelona headquarters of the gas company. Lucky for us, the lamps were not removed, for they (there are two, flanking the entrance to the building) are veritable works of art.
These two lamps (above and below) are on the façade of a local department store, and none too ugly either, except they could do with a coat of paint, or in any case some rust treatment. I especially like the lantern-like lamp below – it makes me think of Chinese lanterns, for which I have always had a soft spot. This one is just as ornate, but obviously not Asian in style.
More lovely lamps. Above, one that simulates a torch, including the flame-like points on each corner of its lantern, and below, a beautiful wrought iron lamp which appears to grow out of the wall with its leaves and berries…
Another other-worldly lantern, is this one (above) held by a magical dragon. You can find it in the courtyard that I showed you last Friday (previous post).
That more simple lamps can be just as enchanting, can be seen here (above and below). Curved, etched glass panes must have been quite a novelty when the one on Carrer Canuda was added to its building! The almost minimalist lamp below is beautiful in its simplicity, in my opinion, and I like that the glass is completely opaque, and white.
One of the lovely lamps (below) that grace the walls in the area where the Cute Suite is located. Pretty, isn’t it? I thought you might like it to begin your week with, and I wish you a great week! I’ll be back tomorrow, with more Barcelona gorgeousness… Fins demà!
