Old school undies

La Torre

Happy Thursday! I’d like to show you a very traditional shop today, one that has been around for 111 years, and which I hope will be around for many more…

Old school undies

La Torre is one of those shops that locals have been visiting for ‘ages’ to buy good quality underwear and pijamas. Their styles are not exactly of the sexy variety, but instead cater to those among Barcelona’s inhabitants more inclined to modest styles.

Corner art

I’m showing you mainly the outside, because it is full of lovely details, and so well taken care of. Also, because it is the kind of shop that is threatening to disappear from Barcelona’s street-scape, plus, the inside isn’t terribly note-worthy – just a bunch of shelves filled to the brim with boxes.

Ronda de Sant Antoni

It’s well worth stopping by if you’re in town (it’s on the corner of Plaça Universitat and Ronda de Sant Antoni) and shop for some very decent pijamas or undershirts for your dad or uncle, or for yourself, if that’s your thing! You’ll be sure that you’re not going to be over charged for them, and that they will be a lasting memento of your visit.

Blind wheels

There is very little modern about this lovely shop, and even the old wheel mechanism to lower and raise the striped awnings is still very much old school. I love it!

Dedicatory plaque

Barcelona also loves this shop, and so in 1999 granted it a dedicatory plaque on the side walk at the entrance on Plaça Universitat. From the amount of people always in the shop, it looks like La Torre has a bright future in store – I certainly wish it to be so!
