This year’s programme booklet for the La Mercè festivities was filled with pretty illustrations, so I have decided to show it to you. These scans don’t really do them justice, but I wanted to show them to you anyway, so I apologise in advance for the lack of visual quality.
All the illustrations were made by Catalina Estrada, who was born and raised in Colombia, but has been living in Barcelona since 1999.
Her illustrations burst with all the colors and power of Latin-American folklore combined with a subtle touch of European sophistication. She has a unique ability for creating fascinating illusive worlds, full of colors, nature, and enchanting characters.
With such gorgeous art work, it is no wonder that Catalina has some big names among the clients in her portfolio. Some of them are Paul Smith, Sony Music, Camper, Nike, Levis, Paulo Coelho, Lindt, Unicef, Chronicle Books, and also Barcelona’s City Council (to name a few), who on this occasion commissioned Catalina to illustrate the programme booklet for this year’s La Mercè festivities.
Her pretty illustrations grace many of the booklet’s pages – some illustrations are large, others just small details, but all are equally delicate, bursting with colour and delightful details.
As these scan don’t really do her art the justice it deserves, I suggest you check out her website for more of Catalina’s gorgeous illustrations and other work. Enjoy!
