It’s in the middle of the touristy part of Barcelona, it’s true, but it’s a lovely place and so I think worth showing here. So today, let’s visit ART i SA. Coming?
Under the arches of Carrer Colom, just off Plaça Reial is where we’ll find this little haven of yumminess, that is ART i SA. It is a small cafe and deli which is decorated with a mix of rustic elements and clean lines…
… and where a large collection of glass jars have been used to create cute lights that hang from the ceiling in various parts of this cosy place.
In a cute old kitchen cupboard, a collection of prettily wrapped chocolates and various oils are displayed – they are sourced locally (in Catalunya) and made in traditional ways, so a good idea to buy some as a gastro souvenir.
For more deli articles, check out the large shelving unit on the adjacent wall, where a good selection of oils, vinegars, olive paste, various types of honey, olives, and more are displayed beautifully to attract your attention.
Opposite, at the counter, sweet and savoury food to eat in or to go can be ordered. Fancy a crêpe? Or would you prefer a sandwich on a wide range of different breads (delicious!!)? Or maybe a smoothie? An ice cream? Tea? Illy coffee? There is so much on offer it’s kind of hard to decide what to have. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is good, so whatever you choose, I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.
With any order of coffee, you get one of these little chocolates from the bowl (below) how sweet is that?
The lovely staff will prepare your order with a care and serve it to you with a smile. Pay now, or pay later – both options are ok, which makes a nice change from a lot of the establishments in the surrounding area where you have to whip out your wallet while the waiter or waitress hovers over you until you pay.
Take the time to read their statement wall, or check out their lovely website to find out about their values and goals. The lovely art work on the windows is also well worth checking out – pretty, isn’t it? (below)
It’s nice to see that catering to tourists (mostly) need not be to the detriment of good taste and solid values, and can go hand in hand with keeping local (Catalan) producers involved and thus support local economy. I’ll be back for some more yummie breakfasts or snacks soon. Will you join me?
