It seems with Spring not only flowers have sprung, but also new shops! Today I present you another one that has recently opened just around the corner from the Cute Suite. It is called Costura.
Not just a shop selling all kinds of craft items, Costura is the embodiment of a new concept, which combines haberdashery with atelier and shop, and promotes DIY when it comes to obtaining clothes for kids between 2 and 7 years of age.
They sell fabrics, haberdashery items (not found elsewhere in Barcelona), accessories and Alfa sewing machines, and offer work shops as well as advice on how to create patterns and clothes for your little ones.
Have you seen the super cute shoes (above) by Paez and the colourful bags (below)? To die for!
Fresh colours or neutrals, there is something for everyone in Costura. To buy ready-made, to order or to do-it-yourself.
The selection on display, with its simple styles yet cool vibe, is well chosen and not what you would normally find in shops in Barcelona for children of this age range, and the fabrics are truly delightful.
The shop has been decorated with vintage touches and splashes of colour here and there, resulting in a calm yet inspiring space.
You can rent their sewing machines if you don’t have your own, or buy one of their Alfa sewing machines. They are official Alfa distributors as well as friendly ladies!
The three owners, all young mothers, are knowledgeable about sewing, knitting and crochet techniques and will happily offer advice about their products or work shops.
If you don’t have the time to DIY, you can also select the fabric and accessories and they will make it for you! There are plenty of options for anyone who likes crafting, or wants to learn something new…
… as well as for those who simply wish to buy simple yet ‘cool’ ready-made children’s clothing and accessories.
Their gorgeous fabrics have certainly caught my eye, and their clothes range and those cute shoes would make great gifts for my nieces and nephews!
How about you? Have you been inspired by Costura?
*** Unfortunately, as a result of the current economic situation, Costura will be closing its doors the first week of February 2013. I’m very sad at this news and wish them all the best in their next venture(s).
