Yes, it’s time! The temperatures are soaring and the sun is getting too hot to walk in, so it’s time to head to the beach!
And that is just what I did this past weekend, cycling past Port Vell, stopping to listen to this really good band that plays Latin music.
Then on to the beach at Barceloneta. It’s a great place to go, both early in the morning – when there is no one and the sea is flat like a mirror – or any other time, to people watch, or just to relax and enjoy what the sun, sea and sand has to offer…
There are a lot of people paddle surfing this year. It looks like fun, so I’ll try it out one of these days. Have you ever tried it?
Chiringuitos are great places to see and be seen. They are dotted along the various beaches on Barcelona’s shore, and each have a different clientele, music, food and drinks on offer. Prices tend to be a little on the high side at most of them, but they’re fun!
This year I was gladdened to see a return of nature to Barcelona’s mostly artificial beaches. Seeing cormorants sunbathing just took my breath away! And spotting pebbles and sea shells was pretty great too.
When the sun drops and the sea shimmers its blinding light, the temperatures drop and it can still be quite chilly….
Then it’s time to venture into this old fishermen’s neighborhood and have a drink or a bite to eat. For those with more energy, there are several places that remain open until late. But even a stroll along the promenade enjoying te beauty of the sunset colours is most enjoyable. I don’t know about you, but in my case, my next visit will have to wait until the weekend! *sigh*
