Curious to find out what is behind this door? Come on in, follow me, and I’ll tell you…
Welcome to Base Elements – an art gallery that specialises in my favourite art form: graffiti. Located in the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) on Baixada de Viladecols number 2, Base Elements is a veritable treasure trove for lovers of urban art.
The gallery is chock-a-block with art from a selection of renowned graffiti artists, such as B-Toy, Pez, Kenor, Zosen, and Uri, and urban artists Juan Pajares, Pedro Cuevas, Pez Khamino, Robert and Monica (Monix), as well as others.
The work on show is diverse, both in the use of colour, or lack of it, and the styles, some pretty grim, others colourful and deceptively naive…
In the main room you can also find a good selection of post cards and (fridge) magnets, suitable for slightly smaller purses.
In the side room, the art on display has a more overtly dramatic vibe.
Some is figurative, such as Pajares’s canvases, which usually feature music stars prominently. Some not so much, as Kenor’s work for example (below), which tends to make use of a range of geometric forms, and is usually pretty colourful.
My favourite is Pez (below) whose grinning fish always make me smile, although I also like B-Toy and Pajares’s work. Which do you like best?
Enjoyed the tour…(-:
