Contemporary architecture in Barcelona is pretty cool too, and today I have prepared a small sampler for you. If you like it, I’ll show you more, in a couple of weeks…
Plaça de Lesseps was renovated recently and some interesting buildings were added to the existing repertoire of Modernista style buildings in the area. One I spotted and like is the one above. I love that wood is being used as skins for buildings these days, especially when combined with concrete and matte metal, as has been done on this building.
The collapsible shutters (see below) are made of the same metal as the skin on that side of the building, but instead of a nobby effect, they present holes to let the light through. Very subtle play in textures. I love it.

This indigo coloured building (the lighting was a little tricky when I shot this photo, so the colour appears different) is just down the road from the previous one. If it were a solid colour it would already be quite quirky, but the white, curvy lines, have added a fair amount of tension to the whole, and makes it quite interesting. What do you think?
On Passeig de Gràcia, two examples of minimalist chic. Above with curvy, sinuous lines and cut-outs, and below, a game of squares and rectangles, enhanced by clever lighting.
A sense of humor in the finishing touches of the back of a hotel on Via Laietana. Eye ball shapes on stilts protrude from the indigo curvy backside of the building. It makes me smile every time I look at it!
A couple of blocks from the Cute Suite, you can find the MACBA with its pristine white concrete structure and delicious aqua green glass front – I always find it soothing to look at…
Stunning and controversial, the W Hotel stands proud at the Southernmost end of the Barcelona beaches. Its reflective skin is what I like most of all, for it reflects all that lies in its vicinity, and changes colour, depending on the time of day and weather conditions. As a lover of the sea, I hardly need mention how much I enjoy seeing it reflected in its windows…
