Meet me on the corner…

 Pintor Fortuny – Doctor Dou

The weekend is here and the sun is shining again. So how about you meet me on the corner, and I take you for a walk through Barcelona? I’m going to show you that no corner is the same here…

We’ll start around the corner from the Cute Suite, and meet for a coffee on this delightful terrace in the sun. And while we’re catching up on the week’s goings-on, we can check out the opposite corner (below)… pretty isn’t it?

Peu de la Creu – Riera Alta

Then we’ll saunter down Peu de la Creu, where we’ll leave this funny flattened corner behind,  and head towards Ronda de Sant Antoni, where I’ll show you the old market (I’ll write about that gorgeous structure some other time) and this circular corner. Those round rooms must be wonderful to hang out in, while soaking up those rays…

Carme – Xuclá

Back through El Raval, I’ll take you to see three corners that practically converge, and which are a perfect example of how no corner is equal to the one next to it in this wonderful city. This one (above) is quite simple, which is in huge contrast with the next corner (below). Can it get any richer?

Carme – Xuclá the other corner

And a few steps further,  very neo classical, the corner of what used to be a very prestigious jewellery shop and now houses a hotel.

La Rambla – Boqueria

I’ll show you some  very fancy corners further down, on La Rambla, like this 19th Century French style one (above) and nearby, on Plaça del Rei, I’ll show you a beautiful example of Gothic architecture. Minimalist, but oh so stylish. I love it!

Bisbe Cassador – Lledó

For a more rustic styles, we’ll wander through Carrer Lledó, and then double back towards Jaume I, where we’ll stop for a delicious Italian ice cream. Well deserved by then…

Afterwards, just two more corners, only one street away, two very different ones. The first (above) has all the detailing on the building and minimal detail on the balconies; the 2nd (below) has all the details on its balconies – underneath! – and very little detailing on the building itself.  Quirky!

I think that will be enough corner spotting for one day, don’t you? So, what do you say, shall we meet on the corner?
