Yesterday I got a new pair of trousers, and I got them here, at Medwinds.com. A new shop that has popped up on the corner of my street, and which uses the Mediterranean as its inspiration, and was born out of the belief, that for retail, the internet is the future.
Medwinds.com is not just any run-of-the-mill shop, it is actually a showroom used to showcase the collections they sell online. For those who are willing to provide them with their email address, the online price is charged, and for those who don’t, a higher retail price is applicable. Interesting, right?
The shop is located on the corner of Carrer Elisabets and Carrer Notariat, in what for many years was a ladies’ hairdresser, and has opened very recently. The decor is minimal, in light greys and wood, and old features, such as the cast iron column and the beams on the delicately painted ceiling, have been left exposed. On this very lovely ceiling, a few colourful kites (which reflect the colours used in the collections for this Summer) have been hung.
Medwinds.com have a very spacious changing room, with a huge mirror and a lovely pouf made of the same material that is used for the soles of espadrilles. A good place to try on all the garments and shoes they currently have on display. Not all that is available online is available in-shop – they rotate the collections of both clothes and accessories to keep things fresh and showcase various items at different times.
The simple, yet well-made garments and accessories are designed in Barcelona (not far from the shop, actually) and produced in Spain, using natural materials, and where possible, artisanal methods or workshops. Thus they ensure that the collections are not mass-produced, and in some cases, they are in fact limited ‘editions’.
The accessories (leather shoes and sandals, baskets and various bags and totes) are handmade on the island of Mallorca (where the founders of Medwinds.com hail from) and are very evocative of the Mediterranean lifestyle. The lovely espardenyes are handmade on the Spanish mainland, and finished beautifully. The fabulous carpet (visible below), made with the soles of espadrilles, will be available online shortly in a range of gorgeous colours. How about that for a scoop?!
Apart from their own collection, Medwinds.com have also incorporated a handful of beautiful designs by Henrik Vibskov. These include both garments and accessories, and are available both in the shop, and online.
Do check the shop out if you are in the neighborhood, or simply click on this link to view the collection online. Be careful though, for you might find lots of things you’ll want to buy! Medwinds.com are very active in the social media, and have various Twitter accounts and Facebook pages in English, Spanish and French, and are also on Pinterest so you can keep up-to-date on all their news, contests, etc. Happy shopping at Medwinds.com!
