Opened just yesterday, a new addition to el Raval: La Cucchiarella! Run by the lovely Giovanna and Stefania, who prepare food and pastry deliciousness on site and attend all customers with a smile and their delightful Italian accents.
La Cucchiarella is located on Carrer San Rafael 20, right next to the Rambla del Raval, in what probably were the former premises of a textile business, to judge by the gorgeous old fabric scales that have been left on one of its walls.
Food or pastries to take away or eat in, at one of their two bars, or any of the cute seating areas.
Just like big sister Le Cucine Mandarosso (a great Italian eatery which I will post about soon) the decor is a mix of vintage furniture and appliances which make you feel at home instantly.
And just like her big sister, La Cucchiarella offers excellent quality food, made from fresh produce combined with authentic Italian pasta, cheese, etc. sourced and imported from Italy by the owner himself.
Family recipes as well as those found in much used cookbooks are offered to the customers at very accessible prices, and always with a broad smile – a sure recipe for success!
The space they have found for La Cucchiarella is bright and airy. Some finishing touches have yet to be added, but thanks to fresh bunches of pretty flowers gracing the main table and the pastry table in the shop window, you feel instantly welcome.
Just a few examples of the vintage beauties that have been used to decorate La Cucchiarella – gorgeous lamps…
… mix and match furniture, and dainty curtains.
The side table with their cake and pastry selection is irresistible! You just have to try at least one of their pretty pastries, or a wedge of cake! The mini chocolate muffins are super yummie!
It was mid-morning when I visited, and my stomach was asking for something savoury, so I had one of their saltimboccas – one with pesto, mozzarella and cherry tomatoes… hmmmmm! Benissimo!!
No doubt I’ll be going back often (it is just a couple of street way from the Cute Suite after all). I sure hope to see you there too sometime!
